Using an exquisite watercolour technique possibly inspired by Eastern or early Italian paintings, these delicate rose stems have been taken from Wildsmith’s book “The Little Wood Duck” published in 1972. The Liberty Design Studio were drawn to the simplicity of the carefully considered elements that comprise the floral motif; the suggestive leaf outlines and the charming circular flower heads. There is something naive yet at the same time supremely sophisticated about this design, compromising of a multidirectional repeat of tumbling rose stems.

“ The stories in my paintings are about the world in which we live. Everything is living: animals, birds, bees, people, flowers and each has its own soul. I try to express that inner soul.” – Brian Wildsmith
